How On Campus
This broad qualification will give you practical foundation skills you need to carry out a range of basic tasks in the resource and infrastructure sectors, such as mining and mineral exploration, drilling, petroleum exploration and construction.
This course has been carefully crafted with industry insights, providing a blend of theoretical understanding and practical training. This course is ideal for candidates who are:
- looking to start a career in mining, civil construction, or infrastructure
- wanting to improve their employability in the resources industry
- needing essential workplace safety and operational training
Students will be required to attend the Thornlie campus for theory classes and simulated site activities on a 3,000m2 simulated civil construction site. Students will have access to specialist equipment and space requirements for the units in this qualification.
Students will gain hands-on and theoretical training in:
- understanding work health and safety regulations, safety procedures and risk management in resource and infrastructure environments
- developing effective communication skills for teamwork and interaction in high-risk work settings
- learning to operate basic machinery and tools used in mining and construction
- understanding site procedures, hazard identification, and industry compliance requirements
- implementing environmentally responsible practices in resource industries
This course is recommended for those with an interest and aptitude for working in the resource and infrastructure industry.
You will need:
- practical hands-on aptitude
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- basic literacy and numeracy skills
- basic understanding of concepts including measurements, volumes, levels, ratios, pressure, temperatures and chemicals
- ability to complete written work in the form of job cards and workbooks.
All course materials are provided to students in both hard copy and soft copy formats. All activities can be completed in hard copy format. Students will require computer skills to access the online version of the learner resources, activities and tasks.
