It's anticipated that on course completion graduates will have gained the relevant knowledge and skills to enable them to:

• Manage a cyber security environment
• Assess and secure cloud services
• Perform digital forensic investigations on workstations and mobile devices.

Analytical

You must have strong analytical skills. You have to be able to study computer systems, assess any potential risks, and consider possible solutions.

Communication

You should educate users, explaining to them the importance of cyber security, and how to protect their data. Strong oral and written communication skills are important.

Creativity

Creativity is critical for the Cyber Security specialist. You must be able to anticipate cyber attacks, always thinking one step ahead of a cyber threat. This kind of forward thinking takes creativity.

Detail oriented

Many threats to cyber security are hard to detect. You have to be focused on the details of a security system, noting any minor changes, and foreseeing any potential problems, however small.

IT knowledge

Threats to cyber security are always changing, as are solutions. You have to constantly update your knowledge on the latest data-protection news, cyber-security legislation, and practices and techniques.
 

Our cyber security courses are delivered in specialist cyber security facilities at Murdoch campus, with satellite facilities at Rockingham and Thornlie campuses allowing students to engage remotely in teams.

Students in cyber security qualifications enjoy access to industry relevant equipment in our newest IT training facility, the Training Cyber Security Operations Centre (TCSOC) where students get hands-on with the latest technologies to prepare them for a cyber security career. Students can access industry relevant technology such as MS Server 2016, Azure Cloud Platform, Kali Linux, and CISCO ASAs and can gain exposure to IT Security frameworks including SABSA, Security+ and CCNAS.

The Murdoch campus is centrally located to the Murdoch health and knowledge precinct, making it the ideal location for cyber security training. SM TAFE has associations with industry associations such as the Australian Computer Society, Australian Information Security Association and Health Informatics Society of Australia. These relationships see our Murdoch campus hosting regular events for students and staff to participate in knowledge sharing and networking in the cyber security industry.

There is the capacity to be invited to participate in industry driven projects, providing students with the opportunity to work alongside an industry partner and deliver a high end security products.
