Smart Travel

Welcome to the Smart Travel page, a central point of information where you can find out about transport options to our campuses.

We work with TransPerth and the local Councils and businesses surrounding our campuses to provide the tools to plan your journey using public transport. 

We can help with the following:

  • Travel advice using public transport, including instructions to use TransPerth apps, maps and website and ticketing options
  • Access to facilities to help with alternative transport, such as shower and locker facilities for bike riders
  • Help with organising special parking, such as ACROD and parking for special events
  • Advice for special deliveries and access to loading docks at our campuses

Using public transport

Our campuses are all accessible via TransPerth's network of buses and trains. TransPerth makes your journey planning easy with their JourneyPlanner tool(opens in a new tab) . 

Step 1 - choose your route
It's as easy as choose your destination, choose your time of arrival (or departure) then click 'Plan Journey'.
Take note of the 'zones' you will travel through - review the zone maps on the TransPerth website. The number of zones is what sets your ticket price as you travel through Perth's public transport network.

Take note of the varying travel options you can use - you may choose a faster trip to TAFE or a slower trip with connections closer to home or study.

It's a great idea to keep up with TransPerth service updates for all notifications of line disruptions. Sign up to 'My Account' to be notified about updates that matter to you.

Step 2 - find out how to pay
The second step is to plan how you will pay for your public transport. 

TransPerth offers convenience for regular travellers via the Smart Rider card. Tag on at the start of your journey with your Smart Rider, then tag off at the end. Plus, Smart Rider cards can also be used for parking at train stations.

Using alternative travel options

Bike or walk to campus
If you live relatively close to campus, you should consider cycling or walking!

Those at our Murdoch campus can enjoy showers and secure lockers with student access available in T block, bottom floor.

All major campuses have bike racks, so why not kick start a healthy lifestyle and ride or walk to class?
   

Drive to campus
Most campuses have ample car parking for students, but some such as Carlisle and Murdoch are in congested precincts, so parking is very limited and students may be disappointed when carparks are full. We highly recommend students attending Carlisle or Murdoch campuses consider public transport options and leave their car at home.

Parking contrary to signage in car parks is enforced and infringement notices may be issued.

When parking in residential streets, please consider our neighbours and avoid blocking driveways, pathways and other vehicles.

While our security patrols car parks, please ensure your vehicle has no possessions in view and be sure to lock your vehicle before joining class.

ACROD parking
ACROD parking is available at all campuses for those with an ACROD parking permit issued by National Disability Services WA.

You can park in marked ACROD bays by displaying your parking permit clearly in the window.

Getting to Armadale and Thornlie campus

The Armadale/Thornlie Line closed in November 2023 to facilitate major METRONET projects.

The Thornlie - Cockburn Line is now open, and the Armadale Line has been partially reopened between Cannington and Perth stations. 

During the remainder of the shutdown, services will operate as follows: 

  • Train replacement buses are running between Armadale and Cannington stations (Kenwick, Maddington, Gosnells, Seaforth, Kelmscott, Challis, Sherwood and Armadale)  
  • Trains are operating between Cannington and Perth stations
  • Beckenham passengers can now take a Thornlie-Cockburn line train from Beckenham to Perth Station
  • The Armadale Line between Cannington and Armadale stations is scheduled to reopen in October 2025
