Informed Choices - Aviation (Remote Pilot)

To make an informed choice about the suitability of a course, you must consider the essential skills and knowledge, in addition to the critical aspects of assessment of that course.  

Please review the inherent requirements listed below and determine whether you might experience challenges in meeting them. If you think you might experience challenges related to your disability, health condition or for any other reason, you should discuss your concerns with the Program Area, a Student Services staff member or a Disability Access and Equity Officer.

Core Requirements

Communication skills and abilities

  • Clearly convey and receive information, follow instructions, and report accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written skills are essential for team coordination and responding to unexpected situations.

Observation skills and abilities

  • Stay alert to environmental and operational changes, potential hazards, and cues affecting drone flights.
  • Keen observational skills ensure safety and compliance.
     

Technical and motor skills 

  •  Demonstrate good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise control.
  • Efficiently operate equipment, interpret readings, and manage multiple tasks for safe, accurate piloting.
     

Cognitive/ intellectual skills and abilities

  • Apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and quick analysis of complex information.
  • Good memory, adaptability, and organisational skills are vital for managing flight plans and maintaining standards.
     

Behavioural & social skills and abilities

  • Work well in a team, show professionalism, and maintain respectful communication.
  • Reliability, responsibility, adaptability, and resilience are important, as is a willingness to learn and improve.
     

Physical demands

  • Maintain good eyesight, hearing, steady hands, and concentration over long periods.
  • Be prepared for extended sitting or standing, sometimes outdoors, with sufficient stamina for operational demands.

  • Technological literacy, including software and apps
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in checks
  • Effective time management for study and practical work
  • Self-motivation and continuous learning
  • Uphold ethical conduct, respect privacy and property
