South Metropolitan TAFE (SM TAFE) was once again proud to be a part of the Perth SkillsWest Careers and Employment Expo(opens in a new tab) .
Held from 23 to 25 July at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the expo is Western Australia's largest showcase of jobs, skills and training.
Over three busy days, our SM TAFE and Jobs and Skills Centre teams connected with students, parents, graduates and job seekers, helping them explore career pathways and training opportunities.
Visitors who were unsure about their next career move could answer a series of questions on our large interactive touchscreens to discover study and career options tailored to their interests.
Our Try'A Skill space demonstrated how you can make it here, across industries with in-demand jobs, including Advanced Manufacturing, Building and Construction, Clean Energy, and Essential Care.
SM TAFE student Larni also showcased her impressive hairdressing skills before she jets off to represent Australia in Hairdressing at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, this September.
2026 expo highlights
Here's a look at some of the activities and displays that kept visitors engaged throughout the event.
- A real-world helicopter with our Aviation team
- A ute tray demonstrating electrical wiring from our Heavy Automotive team
- An augmented reality welding simulator with our Defence Industry experts
- Applied Engineering activities, including a windmill and a Pikachu circuit
- Plastering and locksmithing demonstrations from our Building and Construction team
- An Advanced Manufacturing hub with 3D printing demonstration and an interactive sandbox with topographical mapping that changed before your eyes
- A VR nursing demonstration and health checks with our Nursing team
- A simulated childcare set up with our Early Childhood Education team
- Aged care equipment and an online counselling simulation from our Community Services team
- Cybersecurity challenges from our IT gurus
- Science and Environment bringing lab technology to life under the microscopes
- Our Horticulture team inspiring visitors with free plants
