This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Are you looking for a career creating and repairing metal structures and products?

When you complete the Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Sheetmetal) you'll be ready for a career as a sheetmetal worker or light metal fabricator in industries such as mining, commercial and residential construction, hospitality, medical, food, defence, commercial, recreational marine, automotive and aviation.

The course begins by establishing the foundation skills that are required to be a successful sheetmetal tradesperson. Students undertake workshop and classroom projects to develop the skills and knowledge required by a tradesperson. 

  • Create and work with light metal fabrications
  • Use workshop machines, hand and power tools
  • Sheet and plate assembly
  • Thermal (Oxy-fuel) cutting, tungsten arc (TIG) welding and gas metal arc (MIG) welding
  • Sketching and drawing interpretation
  • Problem-solving, error detection and correction
  • Advanced fabrication and job presentation skills
  • Polishing skills
