Qualify to be a disability carer
This nationally recognised course provides the job-ready skills to be a fully qualified disability carer.
At SM TAFE, students will gain a specialised skillset to support people with disability in a range of community and residential settings.
This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision.

In order to make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, you must take into account the essential skills and knowledge required to undertake this study.
- excellent observational skills - to be able to identify changes in behaviour, abilities and environment

- be able to deal with physical demands of manual tasks including personal care work and lifting
- basic problem solving skills and the ability to respond to immediate safety risks
