Learn the fundamentals of using your digital camera in a fun and supportive environment. Unleash your creative potential by discovering the advantages of using manual modes and controlling shutter speed, aperture and ISO, so you can progress to the next level on your photographic journey.

Learn composition tips, tricks and techniques to further define your individual style.

Learn basic editing, enhancement and archiving skills using Adobe Photoshop.

Collate your own portfolio of course Photo Challenge images, to illustrate what you have learned on this course.    

This course offers a blend of helpful theory in easy-to-understand terms, clear demonstrations and student practicals so you can put the theory into practice. Includes course notes, lecturer/class/student feedback and informative Q&A sessions.

This pathway provides training for individuals to develop skills and knowledge in:

  • How your DSLR and mirrorless cameras work 
  • How to control the camera using manual and semi automatic modes 
  • Using shutter speed, aperture and ISO to achieve better exposures and more creative outcomes  
  • Understanding exposure 
  • Choosing the right equipment for the job 
  • File formats – convenience versus quality 
  • Qualities of light and when to shoot 
  • Creative framing and composition
  • Shooting a portfolio of varied image genres i.e. portraits, still life etc. 
  • Basic editing, enhancing and archiving of images using Adobe Photoshop.
