Are you a woman looking to start or return to a career in construction?
South Metropolitan TAFE, in partnership with Construction Training Fund, is offering scholarship pathways designed to support women into trade and technical roles in the building and construction industry.
The Women in Construction scholarship will cover training costs and related expenses, with classes starting in Semester 1, 2026, at South Metropolitan TAFE Thornlie campus.
There are 16 scholarships available for each of these eligible qualifications:
- 52893WA Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway – Trades) (Painting and Decorating Pre-apprenticeship)
- 52922WA Certificate II in Building and Construction Technical Support
Applications close 31 October 2025.
This initiative supports women entering the construction industry with a scholarship. These scholarships apply to women enrolled in one of the two eligible qualifications:

Program details
- Classes start Semester 1, 2026
- Up to 16 places are available in each eligible qualification
- A scholarship for each successful applicant will cover training costs and associated expenses to support the participants through their studies, including:
- Full tuition and resource fees
- Personal Protective Equipment (for Painting and Decorating only)
- Mentoring
- Employability workshops
- Guest speakers and site visits
- Construction White Card (CPCWHS1001)
- $500 graduation voucher

2. Complete the Expression of Interest form by 31 October 2025.

3. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview and to complete LLN tests from 10 November 2025.
4. Successful applicants will be notified and contacted with an offer from 1 December 2025.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a person who identifies as a woman;
- Have left school, and
- Be a Western Australian resident and Australian citizen; or
- Be a permanent visa holder or holder of an eligible visa subclass as outlined in the Department's VET Fees and Charges Policy 2025
Attending a Try-a-Trade or Information Session is optional, but a valuable way to explore the program.

The Information Sessions will be held at the South Metropolitan TAFE Thornlie campus, providing you with the opportunity to learn more about the program and ask any questions you may have.

Try-a-Trade
The Try-a-Trade is a free 3-day program for women who have left school and are interested in exploring a career in the construction trades.
Participants will have the opportunity to "have a go" at painting and decorating, and/or construction technical support within a real trade training environment at South Metropolitan TAFE Thornlie campus.
