SM TAFE has a long-standing relationship with Austal since 2007 onwards. To date SM TAFE has provided training to over 100 apprentices at Austal in fabrication, marine fitting, electrical and cabinet making via the following qualifications:
- MEM30305 - Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication Trade (Marine)
- MEM30205 – Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade (Marine Fitter)
- UEE30811 - Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
- MSF31113 - Certificate III in Cabinet Making
During this peak shipbuilding period, SM TAFE delivered to approximately 250 apprentices via fast track programs acknowledging previous experience and GAP training through a structured blended learning approach. This demonstrates our ability to quickly ramp up operations to meet critical industry training needs. To ensure SM TAFE catered to Austal’s requirements within the fabrication trade, we contextualised a marine fabrication training pathway in consultation with Austal. SM TAFE are currently collaborating on a certificate II industry specific course which will allow a clear pathway to a fabrication apprenticeship.
