Graduates are well-prepared for engineering apprenticeships, with hands-on learning in state-of-the-art facilities and specialised workshops at our campuses.
This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Are you looking for a career in engineering?
When you complete the Certificate II in Engineering Foundations (Engineering (General) Pre-apprenticeship) you'll greatly improve your chance of getting an apprenticeship in industries such as mining, industrial, defence, automotive, or hydraulics.
This pre-apprenticeship prepares graduates to continue their studies through to a metal fabrication or mechanical apprenticeship.
The course provides industry exposure and preparation for further training or employment. However, successful completion does not guarantee an apprenticeship or employment.

Before enrolling, candidates should understand that this pre-apprenticeship includes theory, practical workshop training, assessment and supervised work placement in the fabrication or mechanical trades.
Candidates can expect to develop introductory trade skills, safety awareness, employability skills and an understanding of workplace conditions and employer expectations.
Candidates must:
- Understand that workshop and workplace environments may contain hazards and follow all safety procedures and workplace instructions.
- Wear the required work clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Behave professionally during classes, workshop activities and work placements.
- Be prepared for the physical requirements of the course. These may include standing for extended periods, undertaking manual-handling activities and working in environments where heat, dust, fumes and noise may be present. Appropriate safety controls and personal protective equipment will be used.
