Delivered in partnership with Chevron Australia, the Women in Engineering program provides valuable foundation skills for gaining employment in Western Australia’s oil and gas and resources industry or a pathway to higher-level qualifications. Students benefit from a supportive, applied learning environment and access to female role models.
There are 14 fully funded scholarships available for students to complete MSM30116 Certificate III in Process Manufacturing and PMA20116 Certificate II in Process Plant Operations.
This is a full-time 20-week program, with attendance required from 8.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday at our Munster campus. Chevron sponsors the program and will cover the cost of the course fees associated with it, as well as PPE and other necessary resources; however, this is an unpaid program. While some students will successfully pursue a career with the company, there is no guaranteed employment.
After the program, graduates often start apprenticeships or traineeships in the industry (process plant operator, electrical, mechanical) or go on to further study in the oil & gas and engineering field. The outcomes are strong and many have been employed by companies such as BHP, Alcoa, Woodside, Rio Tinto, CSBP and Tronox.

Entry requirements
Applicants are required to be female, Australian residents, must be competent in communication and mathematics and have not previously completed these qualifications. These skills are equivalent to completion of Year 10, but may also be achieved through previous work or informal learning experiences. The course has been designed to meet the needs of women who are returning to work, seeking a career change, recently completed high school or as an alternative pathway to university. The learning environment is structured to provide a high level of support for students returning to formal education.
Industry Engagement
A key focus of the course is to provide participants with an insight into oil and gas operations from a female perspective and to address barriers that may discourage women from entering the industry. As part of the course students will visit workplaces, have access to industry representatives and participate in valuable presentations.
