Design complex projects to ensure implementation of client site requirements, and gain the technical knowledge to initiate solutions to problems or management requirements.

Looking for the skills to participate in the creation of infrastructure facilities such as roads, railways, buildings, water reservoirs, subdivisions, airports, bridges, sewer systems, tunnels, dams and other public works? Establish yourself in this expanding industry and step towards a future in civil construction management with the Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design.
This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for the roles of senior civil works designers, or para-professional designers who support professional engineers. Once graduated, you will have the expertise to to perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex, technical, and include strategic areas and initiating activities.
You will possess the skills required for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client site requirements, as well as possessing the technical knowledge to initiate solutions to problems or management requirements.

Completion of RII50515 Diploma Civil Construction Design or equivalent is required before commencing this course.

Become a specialist in your field with university study

Attendance in class
This course is equivalent to 3 days per week when studied across 1 semester full time (after completing the Diploma of Civil Construction).
At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.
You will need to have the basic technical requirements, including Microsoft Office - Word; Excel, for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
Work placement
Work placement is not a requirement of this course.
What you need for your first day of class
On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID, stationery (pen, pencil, exercise book, eraser, ruler and calculator) and wear enclosed footwear.
In addition, you are required to wear the following PPE for various laboratories and workshops:
- full sleeve shirt
- closed shoes
- full length pants
- safety glasses (will be provided by SM TAFEs Applied Engineering)
