The Operate a Small Business Skill Set is a comprehensive, free course designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, small business owners, and individuals seeking employment in small business environments. This skill set equips you with practical, hands-on tools to launch, manage, or enhance a small business, while also preparing you for job-ready roles within the small business sector.
Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to refine your existing operations, this course provides the foundational knowledge and skills in today’s small business sector.
This introductory program is accessible to everyone at no cost* and focuses on delivering actionable strategies to streamline business operations, leverage digital tools. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to confidently manage key aspects of a small business or contribute effectively as a skilled employee in a small business setting.
This course is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs launching a business, small business owners aiming to enhance operations or individuals seeking employment in small businesses.
This course covers key areas to help you run or work in a small business. You will learn to:
- Create professional business documents to support operations.
- Produce spreadsheets to organise and track business data.
- Plan finances for new business ventures to ensure sustainability.
- Apply workplace health and safety laws to maintain compliance.
- Build a social media presence to promote your business.
This course is classified as part-time and is available each semester.
As an indication for Semester 1 2026, the following timetable for the five units is planned.
